About Us

Texans for Natural Gas (TNG) is a campaign managed by the Texas Independent Producers and Royalty Owners Association (TIPRO). Under the guidance of TIPRO, the combined organizations have created the most comprehensive statewide oil and natural gas campaign in Texas, comprised of data, analysis, grassroots engagement, and rapid response capabilities designed to provide accurate information about the industry and its unprecedented economic contributions in Texas.

Formed in 2014 as North Texans for Natural Gas and later expanding statewide in 2017, TNG is a grassroots organization that gives a voice to those who support Texas oil and natural gas production. Since its inception, TNG has attracted more than 400,000 supporters from across the state. Over the years, TNG has created leading industry reports, digital content, and impactful research that has shaped the energy conversation in Texas. In 2021, TNG officially merged with TIPRO and will operate as a campaign managed by the association.

Founded in 1946, TIPRO is a trade association representing the interests of nearly 3,000 independent oil and natural gas producers and royalty owners throughout Texas. As one of the nation’s largest statewide associations representing both independent producers and royalty owners, members include small businesses, the largest, publicly-traded independent producers, and mineral owners, estates, and trusts. TIPRO’s mission is to preserve the ability for independents to responsibly explore for and produce oil and natural gas and to educate policymakers, stakeholders, and the general public about the industry.

Texas Oil And Natural Gas

As Texans we have a lot to be proud of when it comes to our energy resources. Oil and natural gas development directly employs over 347,000 Texans. The industry also generates billions in tax revenue for our communities and schools – $13.9 billion in state taxes and state royalty payments in 2020 alone!

The Lone Star State has led America’s energy revolution. Texas is the third-largest producer of natural gas on the planet, behind only the United States and Russia. Texas currently provides about 25 percent of America’s natural gas. Texas is also one of the largest oil producers in the world. Among members of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), only Saudi Arabia and Iraq produce more oil than the Lone Star State, thanks in large part to the Permian Basin in West Texas and the Eagle Ford in South Texas.
