The Texas Oil & Gas and Texas Independent Producers & Royalty Owners associations are two of the organizations that energetically advocate on the industry’s behalf.

TIPRO President Ed Longanecker said the domestic oil and gas industry remains indispensable to the global economy, energy supply and national security.

“Oil and natural gas together supply roughly 53 percent of the world’s primary energy, and fossil fuels overall including coal still account for close to 80 percent of the global total,” Longanecker said. “That share has barely moved in a decade despite trillions of dollars invested in wind and solar.

“Fossil fuels supplied more than half of the world’s electricity in 2025 and coal alone remained the single largest source at 34 percent.”

He said demand for oil, natural gas and coal all grew again last year.

“A July 2026 poll released by Data for Progress and the Center for Climate Integrity, two organizations that have been critical of the oil and gas industry, found that 68 percent of voters initially viewed natural gas favorably,” Longanecker said. “That same survey found that 63 percent of voters believed natural gas is safe for public health when produced and used properly. Favorability declined as respondents were presented with messaging critical of natural gas.”
