Odessa American LTE: Proposed FERC Rules Would Spur Growth for Texas Natural Gas Producers

Mon, November 10, 2025

In a new directive from U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) will initiate rulemaking procedures to address the interconnection of large loads to the transmission system in a “timely, orderly and non-discriminatory manner.”

In his letter, Wright affirms the Administration’s commitment to revitalizing domestic manufacturing and driving American AI innovation, both of which will require “unprecedented and extraordinary quantities of electricity…”

To meet that level of demand, affordable, reliable and dispatchable fuels like natural gas will be the backbone of AI deployment. Natural gas generation can ramp up quickly to handle the fluctuating demands of data centers, where even brief interruptions could corrupt massive AI training runs or halt real-time inferences. This on-demand flexibility sets it apart from variable other energy sources, providing the steady, 24/7 baseload power that AI infrastructure relies on.
