Midland Reporter-Telegram: Permian reduced flaring intensity 62% from 2019-2024
A recent report shows that flaring reductions continued their downward trend even as production levels across the Permian Basin, Texas and the U.S. reached record levels. The analysis was issued by Texans for Natural Gas, a campaign of the Texas Independent Producers and Royalty Owners Association, in its annual flaring report. The report on U.S., Permian Basin and Texas production and flaring intensity found that from 2019 to 2024, flaring intensity in the United States fell 45% from 3.86 cubic meters of gas per barrel of oil to 2.12 cubic meters while production increased 8%.

Another report shows a consistent pattern: as record oil production occurs in the Permian Basin and other key oil fields in Texas, flaring intensity continues to drop, improving environmental outcomes. In its annual flaring report, Texans for Natural Gas is pointing to consistent findings in recent years: as oil production increases, flaring and methane emissions are decreasing, and by record amounts.

World Oil: Permian output rises to record levels while flaring falls, report shows
A new report from Texas Independent Producers and Royalty Owners Association (TIPRO) shows that oil production across the U.S., Permian basin and Texas reached record levels while flaring intensity declined significantly in recent years. According to the analysis, U.S. flaring intensity has fallen 45% since 2019, even as production increased by 8% over the same period. The most pronounced improvements were seen in Texas and the Permian basin, where flaring intensity declined by approximately 50% and 62%, respectively.
