Texas Natural Gas: Setting New Standards in Energy Security

Wed, August 28, 2024

Texas oil and natural gas producers are revolutionizing energy operations. From record production to continued emissions reductions, the Lone Star State is proving that a sustainable energy future with oil and natural gas is a reality.

Texas operators have increased production by more than 13% with over 12.2 trillion cubic feet of natural gas in 2023. Additionally, the Permian is expected to be a key driver of natural gas production growth for the country. The U.S. Energy Information Administration predicts an estimated growth of 1.9 billion cubic feet per day for natural gas production this year. At the same time, innovation from industry and key stakeholders have led to numerous advancements to reduce emissions and minimize environmental impact.

For example, the percentage of natural gas volumes vented or flared in Texas dropped from 2.6% in 2018 to an estimated 0.5% in 2023, resulting in an over 99% utilization of all gas produced. Texas producers have also enhanced our water management capabilities to reduce the volume of freshwater use during operations, resulting in 11 million of the 14 million barrels of produced water per day from the Delaware and Midland basins being recycled.
