Texas Powering Energy Security and Environmental Stewardship
Wed, May 08, 2024
The Texas oil and gas industry is deeply committed to reducing environmental impact while delivering reliable energy for all. From methane and flaring reductions to responsible water management and endangered species protection, our industry proactively implements initiatives to protect our shared environment.
“The Texas energy industry has continuously demonstrated a strong commitment to environmental stewardship throughout years,” explained Ed Longanecker, President of the Texas Independent Producers and Royalty Owners Association. According to our latest TNG emissions report, methane emissions intensity in the Permian Basin dropped by nearly 85 percent between 2011 and 2022, reducing methane emissions by 8.0 million metric tons—equivalent to removing over 53 million vehicles from the road for one year. The Permian Basin also distinguishes itself from other global producers by maintaining flaring intensities well below those of countries like Russia and Venezuela.
Texas oil and gas producers are proactively implementing technology and initiatives to continue reducing methane emissions and flaring. We are proud to continue leading the world in environmentally responsible operations," Longanecker added.
