Debunking a Myth About San Antonio Ozone and Oil & Gas Development
Following the recent announcement from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that Bexar County was in non-attainment under federal ozone standards, critics tried to blame nearby oil and gas development in the Eagle Ford Shale for the region’s air pollution. But the facts tell a different story.
According to state and local emissions data, the Eagle Ford Shale is not a major contributor to ozone in the San Antonio metropolitan area. In fact, there is evidence that increased local use of natural gas in Bexar County has helped the region reduce its ozone concentrations, while also keeping power bills affordable for San Antonio families.
Billions of Dollars Invested in Permian Basin Infrastructure
The Permian Basin has seen record-breaking oil and natural gas production in recent years, but a lack of pipeline infrastructure has limited the region’s ability to reach its full potential. The good news is that’s changing. Numerous pipeline and other infrastructure projects are in the works to connect the vast amount of oil and natural gas in the Permian to both domestic and international markets.
Take Action
The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and NOAA Fisheries want YOUR opinion! Tell them that the Endangered Species Act needs to focus on species recovery instead of being used as a tool to advance an extreme “Keep It In the Ground” agenda.
What Fuels Texas
In Texas, oil and natural gas production is not only fueling jobs and the economy, but is also a significant contributor to the state’s education system. Simply put, energy production has helped make Texas public schools and universities some of the best funded in the nation.
