Houston Mayor: Texas Natural Gas Key to 'Lifting Communities Out of Energy Poverty'

As the global natural gas conference Gastech 2019 kicked off in Houston on Tuesday, the city’s mayor, Sylvester Turner, expressed his support for the fuel and its role in “lifting communities out of poverty.”

 

 

How Oil and Gas Development Funds Texas Schools

Texas has two of the largest endowments in the country, thanks to oil and gas: The Texas Permanent Schools Fund and The Permanent University Fund! An endowment for K-12 public schools, that totaled $44 billion as of August 31, 2018. In that same fiscal year, the PSF allocated $1.2 billion towards Texas education investments.
