An American Indian environmental activist was “praying” Hurricane Harvey would hit Texas hard in order to disrupt the Valley Crossing Pipeline and cost energy companies more money, according to a Facebook post.

This week, the Texas Railroad Commission (RRC) released new data showing oil and natural gas drilling permits issued in Texas increased by over 60 percent in July 2017 compared to July 2016. Expectedly, the majority of permits were issued in West Texas’ Permian Basin; however, the number of permits issued for South Texas’ Eagle Ford was not insignificant, accounting for around 23 percent of the total. These numbers mirror production levels reported for each of the regions, with the Permian dominating oil production among shale plays nationwide and crude output from the Eagle Ford rebounding.

Texas has the fastest growing economy in the United States, according to the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA). The Lone Star State was driven by gains from the mining sector, which in Texas predominantly includes oil and natural gas extraction and related activities.

Last month, researchers published two major studies showing minimal environmental risks posed by oil and natural gas development. These peer-reviewed studies directly contradict two of the main claims leveled by environmental activists – namely, that fracking poses a significant risk to air quality and groundwater.

The Eagle Ford Shale in South Texas supports over 100,000 jobs and is experiencing “renewed activity,” according to a new study from the University of Texas at San Antonio’s (UTSA) Center for Community and Business Research (CCBR). The Academy of Medicine, Engineering and Science of Texas (TAMEST) released a new study today that provides further confirmation that fracking is not contaminating groundwater in Texas.

The Drilling Productivity Report uses recent data on the total number of drilling rigs in operation along with estimates of drilling productivity and estimated changes in production from existing oil and natural gas wells to provide estimated changes in oil and natural gas production for seven key regions. EIA's approach does not distinguish between oil-directed rigs and gas-directed rigs because once a well is completed it may produce both oil and gas; more than half of the wells produce both.
